Mumbai High Celebrates 50 Years: A Milestone in India’s Oil Exploration Journey

Mumbai: The completion of 50 years of Mumbai High, one of India’s most significant oil exploration projects, was celebrated with enthusiasm on February 18, 2024. The event witnessed the presence of Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs, who lauded the remarkable journey and achievements of Mumbai High.

Shri Hardeep Singh Puri emphasized the pivotal role played by Mumbai High in guiding future exploration endeavors. He encouraged ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) to integrate cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics to ensure sustainability and minimize environmental impact. Expressing satisfaction with ONGC’s efforts, the minister acknowledged the importance of bringing new discoveries into production for the nation’s growth.

Addressing the audience, Shri Puri urged ONGC to lead exploration in sedimentary basins and highlighted the significance of blending experience with fresh perspectives to enhance production capabilities. He commended ONGC’s efforts in safety with the establishment of the ISPHEM (Institute of Safety, Health, and Environment Management) facility in Goa, recognized globally for its commitment to safety in the Exploration and Production (E&P) industry.

During the celebrations, ONGC honored past leaders and young achievers who have contributed significantly to the development of Mumbai High. A short film titled “ONGC Promise” was showcased, providing insights into the company’s journey, past, present, and future, narrated through the perspective of a veteran ONGCian portrayed by actor Paresh Rawal.

In his welcome address, Shri Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman and CEO of ONGC, assured intensified production plans and substantial investments for exploration. He expressed hope for discovering a new field similar to Mumbai High in the near future. The Chairman reiterated ONGC’s commitment to exploring every opportunity within Mumbai High until every last drop of oil is recovered, showcasing the company’s dedication to maximizing resource utilization. The celebration marked a historic moment in India’s oil exploration legacy, commemorating the success and resilience of Mumbai High over the past five decades.
