Modern Audio and Chroma Recording Studio Opens at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s cultural landscape received a major boost today with the inauguration of a modern Audio and Chroma Recording Studio at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. The facility, equipped with advanced features, is expected to serve as a hub for preserving and promoting the state’s diverse music, dance, and theatre traditions.

The studio was inaugurated by Odia Language, Literature and Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, who described the project as a milestone for artistes in Odisha. “This modern facility will greatly benefit our artistes and contribute towards showcasing Odisha’s glorious cultural heritage to the world. The Culture Department will soon release a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its use, enabling both government programmes and private institutions to access it. With its advanced features, the studio will play a pivotal role in popularising Odisha’s art and culture while serving the needs of the public,” he said.

As part of the inauguration, Suraj witnessed the recording of an Odissi dance performance at the Chroma Studio. He also toured the Classical and Folk Instruments Museum on campus and interacted with students, encouraging them to take forward the state’s legacy in literature, music, dance, and folk traditions.

The event was attended by Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya, Secretary of the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, Dr. Bijay Kumar Jena, Principal of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, and eminent cultural figures including Aruna Mohanty, Sujata Mohapatra, Ileana Citaristi, Asrumochan Mohanty, and Pragyan Ranjan Khatua. Several other artistes from dance, music, and folk art fields were also present.

With this new facility, Odisha now aims to strengthen its efforts in archiving performances, promoting research, and expanding the global reach of its rich performing arts heritage.
