Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways to Propel Implementation of Global Maritime India Summit 2023 Agreements

New Delhi: The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) is set to host a Stakeholders Meet tomorrow, focusing on the implementation of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the highly successful Global Maritime India Summit 2023 (GMIS 2023). The event aims to transform these MoUs into actionable plans, aligning with India’s ambitious maritime vision. Distinguished figures such as Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways; Shri Shripad Y. Naik, MoS, MoPSW; and Shri Shantanu Thakur, MoS, MoPSW, will grace the occasion.

Building on the momentum generated by GMIS 2023, the Stakeholders Meet will provide a platform for open discussions, encouraging stakeholders to share ideas and suggestions. The objective is to address challenges and identify necessary support or policy interventions required for the successful realization of the objectives outlined in the MoUs.

Alongside discussions, the event will witness the launch of key initiatives, including the Saagar Aankalan Guidelines, the GMIS Report, and the M. Tech in Dredging Technology at IIT Chennai.

GMIS 2023 gained global recognition as one of the largest maritime summits, attracting an unprecedented investment commitment of ₹10 lakh crores during the three-day event. The summit saw the signing of 360 MoUs, reflecting an investment commitment of ₹8.35 lakh crores. Additionally, it showcased the announcement of investible projects worth ₹1.68 lakh crores. The MoUs covered diverse aspects of the maritime sector, encompassing port development, modernization, green hydrogen and ammonia, port-led development, cruise sector, business and commerce, shipbuilding, and knowledge sharing.

The “Sagar Aankalan” Guidelines for National Benchmarking of Indian Ports Performance, set to be introduced during the Stakeholders Meet, aim to enhance the efficiency and performance of Indian seaports. These guidelines seek to achieve mapping and benchmarking of Indian ports’ logistics performance, harmonization of standards with global benchmarks, and overall improvement in competitiveness, efficiency, and sustainability.

The Stakeholders Meet represents a crucial step in translating the commitments made at GMIS 2023 into tangible actions, further propelling India’s maritime sector towards a sustainable and efficient future.
