Ministry of Health Advocates Balanced Diet to Combat Tuberculosis

New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare underscored the significance of a balanced diet in fortifying the immune system against infections like tuberculosis (TB), emphasizing its role in advancing the #TBMuktBharat (TB-free India) initiative.

In a social media post, the Ministry urged individuals to prioritize nutritious food choices, stating, “A balanced diet plays a crucial role in boosting our immune system, making us more resilient to infections like TB.”

This call to action aligns with India’s commitment, as per the World Health Organization (WHO), to eliminate TB by 2025, five years ahead of the global target of 2030. India shoulders a substantial burden, accounting for 27% of the global TB cases, with a staggering 2.8 million reported cases.

The endeavor to eradicate TB receives unwavering support from various quarters, including President Droupadi Murmu, who emphasized the collective effort required to achieve a TB-free India.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya reiterated the government’s commitment, highlighting the significant financial allocation of approximately Rs 3,000 crore annually towards free medicines, testing, and nutrition for 25 lakh TB patients nationwide. Additionally, he applauded the involvement of service-minded citizens who have adopted 10 lakh TB patients, providing them with essential nutrition support every month.

The Ministry’s advocacy for a balanced diet as a crucial component of TB prevention underscores the holistic approach required to combat this infectious disease. By promoting nutritional awareness and access to healthy food choices, the nation aims to bolster individual resilience against TB, contributing to the collective effort towards a TB-free India.
