
New Delhi: To enhance the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence has formalized a contract with Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) for the procurement of 693 Armament Upgrades for Infantry Combat Vehicle BMP2 to BMP2M. The contract, signed on March 13, 2024, falls under the “Buy {Indian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured}” category
The upgrade package includes essential enhancements such as Night Enablement, Gunner Main Sight, Commander Panoramic Sight, and Fire Control System (FCS) with Automatic Target Tracker. These upgrades aim to modernize and fortify the existing BMP 2/2K fleet, providing advanced capabilities for night combat and improved targeting precision.
AVNL has pioneered an indigenized solution for integrating Night Fighting Capabilities and FCS into the BMP 2/2K vehicles. This solution is a result of collaborative efforts involving the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Chennai, contributing their expertise in developing cutting-edge sight and FCS technologies.
