Ministry of Coal Unveils Mine Opening Permission Module on Single Window Clearance System

New Delhi: In a major step toward simplifying the coal mining sector and boosting India’s energy security, the Ministry of Coal has launched the Mine Opening Permission module on its Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) portal. The new module, inaugurated by the Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, Vikram Dev Dutt, marks a significant advancement in creating a digitally enabled economy aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).

The Mine Opening Permission module is set to streamline the approval process for initiating coal mining operations, fostering transparency, efficiency, and a reduced processing time for permissions. This digital solution eliminates the need for manual paperwork by enabling online applications and real-time tracking, promoting a more investment-friendly environment that accelerates approvals and eases the process of doing business in the coal sector.

The Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) was initially launched on January 11, 2021, as a unified platform to consolidate all necessary clearances and approvals for coal mine operations. The introduction of the Mine Opening Permission module takes this initiative a step further, allowing coal mining enterprises to apply for permissions online, track progress in real-time, and benefit from enhanced transparency and streamlined processing.

According to Vikram Dev Dutt, “This new module is a transformative addition to the SWCS, embodying our commitment to leveraging technology for the growth and development of the coal sector. It fosters an efficient and transparent approval process, paving the way for accelerated mine openings and increased coal production, which are essential for bolstering India’s energy security.”

By enabling a quicker decision-making process, the Mine Opening Permission module supports the Ministry’s mission of driving growth in the coal sector, promoting a self-reliant India, and ensuring sustainable development. The initiative aligns with national goals to meet rising energy demands while fostering a secure and sustainable future.

This streamlined approach underpins the Ministry of Coal’s dedication to creating a more efficient operational landscape in the coal industry, supporting the nation’s commitment to a robust, digitally integrated economy and enhancing the ease of doing business for both domestic and international investors.
