Manipur Creates a Special Post for Mirabai Chanu in Police Dept

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren on Monday announced that the Olympic medal winning weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu would be appointed as additional superintendent of police (sports). The state government has specially created the new post for Chanu. 

Apart from being a weightlifter, Chanu has been working as a railway ticket inspector. 

Announcing the new post, the chief minister said, “Chanu will no longer have to run here and there. She can now concentrate on her training so that she wins a gold medal in the next Olympics.”

The State government has also sanctioned  a reward of ₹1 crore for Chanu.
