Bhubaneswar: Mamata Mohanta, the BJP’s candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election, officially filed her nomination papers on Wednesday at the Odisha Assembly. Accompanied by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and senior party leaders, her candidacy sets the stage for the by-poll scheduled on September 3.
Mohanta’s entry into the BJP came after her recent resignation from the BJD, where she also vacated her previous Rajya Sabha seat. Her decision to switch parties has garnered significant attention, and with the BJP holding a majority in the state, her victory is anticipated to be unchallenged.
Although several names were initially considered for the seat, the BJP selected Mohanta as their top choice for the Upper House. Her nomination has further solidified her standing within the party and the state’s political landscape.
