
Malkangiri/Bhubaneswar: Principal Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development and Commerce & Transport Departments, Government of Odisha, Usha Padhi, undertook a day-long visit to Malkangiri district on Thursday to review the progress of key infrastructure and development projects and assess the delivery of urban and transport services.
During her visit, Padhi chaired a review meeting at the District Council Conference Hall, where she evaluated projects being implemented by the Housing & Urban Development and Commerce & Transport Departments. Interacting with district-level officers, she reviewed implementation challenges and discussed measures to improve efficiency, service delivery and timely execution of projects.
The Principal Secretary began her field visit at Govindapalli, where she inspected the condition of the existing bus stand. She later visited the newly constructed bus stand at Mathili to review passenger amenities and operational preparedness. Emphasising commuter convenience, she directed officials to ensure adequate facilities and smooth functioning before the commencement of regular operations.
Padhi also inspected the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Malkangiri, and held discussions with officials on administrative functioning and public service-related issues. She further visited the newly constructed building of the Malkangiri Municipal Council to review infrastructure readiness.
At the compost centre under the Swachh Bharat Mission at MV-42 (Force Colony), the Principal Secretary interacted with sanitation workers and enquired about their working conditions. She discussed ways to improve their welfare, livelihood opportunities and operational efficiency.
Reviewing the water conservation project at BB Guda Tank, located in front of the District Collector’s office, officials informed her that an additional ₹2 crore would be required to complete the work. Directing the Municipal Council to prepare and submit a Detailed Project Report at the earliest, Smt. Padhi assured that the proposal would be examined for sanction by the Housing & Urban Development Department.
The Principal Secretary also reviewed the progress of the bus stand construction in Malkangiri town, visited a nearby food centre, and interacted with local residents to understand public convenience and service-related concerns.
Inspecting the district airstrip, she held detailed discussions with engineers of the Road & Buildings Department and stressed the need to expedite necessary measures to make the airstrip operational at the earliest.
