Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area hovering over the southeast Bay of Bengal since this morning is expected to intensify rapidly in the coming days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed.
According to the latest IMD update, the system is likely to develop into a depression by October 25, further strengthening into a deep depression by October 26, and may intensify into a cyclonic storm over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 27.
As of 8:30 am (IST) today, the system was positioned over the same region after a slow west-northwestward movement over the past few hours. The IMD has indicated a steady intensification trend as it continues along its projected path.
Meteorologists have warned that under the influence of this system, coastal districts of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal may experience heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions starting October 25. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period due to potentially hazardous conditions.
The IMD said it is closely monitoring the system’s movement and will issue regular updates on its trajectory and impact forecast over the next few days.
