Koraput Shines Nationally as PM Modi Presents Award for Excellence in Public Administration

Koraput/Bhubaneswar: In a proud and defining moment for Odisha, Koraput district has earned national acclaim as Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2024 in the category of Holistic Development of Districts to Collector V. Keerthi Vasan. The prestigious award was conferred at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on the occasion of Public Service Day.

Koraput was one of only five districts across the country to be selected for this rare honour, following a rigorous multi-tier evaluation by central authorities. The recognition highlights the district’s innovative, inclusive, and citizen-centric approach to governance, particularly in the successful implementation of 11 major Central Government schemes over the last 18 months.

The schemes, which include Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, Sakhyam Anganwadi and Poshan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar and Mukta Bijuli Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma, Kisan Card, Mission Tikakaran, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Garh Garh Jal Jeevan Mission, and both urban and rural components of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, have collectively brought about a transformative change in the district. These initiatives have notably improved healthcare, nutrition, housing, energy access, and livelihoods—especially for the tribal communities that form the backbone of the district’s population.

“This award belongs to every individual in Koraput who has worked with dedication, integrity, and a shared vision for progress,” said Collector V. Keerthi Vasan, expressing gratitude after receiving the award. “It reflects the collective spirit and trust the people have placed in the District Administration.”

Koraput’s model of governance has now become a national benchmark, with its administration earning accolades for not only delivering on ambitious schemes but doing so with empathy, efficiency, and measurable impact. The district’s success story is rooted in close coordination between officials, frontline workers, and citizens, creating an ecosystem of trust and mutual accountability.

The award not only celebrates the district’s past achievements but also sets a promising tone for the future. With strengthened service delivery and visible improvements in quality of life, Koraput is emerging as a symbol of inclusive and sustainable development. The recognition is expected to further motivate the district to maintain its momentum in transparency, responsiveness, and innovation.

As Koraput rises to national prominence, its journey stands as an inspiring example of how visionary leadership, grassroots participation, and well-executed policy can converge to bring meaningful change. The honour has reaffirmed Odisha’s growing stature in governance and public service delivery, offering a blueprint for districts across India to follow.
