Lucknow: In a thrilling encounter at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) showcased a dominating performance, defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by a staggering 98 runs in Match 54 of the TATA IPL 2024.
The hero of the match was undoubtedly Sunil Narine, whose swashbuckling knock of 81 runs off just 39 balls set the stage for KKR’s commanding victory. Teaming up with Phil Salt (32 off 14), Narine provided a blistering start with a rapid 61-run partnership in just 4.1 overs. Narine’s onslaught continued relentlessly, supported by vital contributions from Ramandeep Singh (25* off 6) and Shreyas Iyer (23 off 15), as KKR posted a formidable total of 235/6.
In response, Lucknow Super Giants faltered under the pressure of KKR’s bowling attack, succumbing to a mere 137 runs. Varun Chakaravarthy (3/30) and Harshit Rana (3/24) spearheaded KKR’s charge with the ball, dismantling LSG’s batting lineup and sealing victory for the visitors.
The match witnessed several pivotal moments, including a stunning catch by Ramandeep Singh to dismiss Impact Player Arshin Kulkarni early in the innings. Despite a valiant effort from Marcus Stoinis (36 off 21) and KL Rahul (25 off 21), LSG failed to sustain momentum, eventually collapsing under the relentless pressure applied by KKR’s bowlers.
Earlier in the game, Lucknow Super Giants won the toss and elected to field, hoping to contain KKR’s formidable batting lineup. However, KKR’s openers, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine, launched a ferocious assault from the outset, setting the tone for their team’s commanding victory.
