Kohli to step down as India’s T20 captain after this year’s world cup

Captain Virat Kohli will no more lead Indian Men’s T20 team after the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 which is going to be held in UAE and Oman. Kohli, who informed about his decision through a social media post, however, will continue to lead the One-day and test teams.

The star cricketer, who has been captaining team India in all formats for last 5-6 years, shared an emotional social media post to announce about his decision today.

He will lead the Indian T20 team in the coming world cup while opener Rohit Sharma will be his assistant in the ICC event. The Indian team is hopeful of winning the world cup for the second time after the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led squad clinched the trophy by beating arch-rival Pakistan in the inaugural edition of this showpiece event in 2008.

Kohli informed that he had taken the decision after consultation with the leadership group of the team and top officials of Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI). He will continue leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team in the second leg of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) that starts from Sunday at Dubai.
