Jitendra Singh Highlights Sixfold Rise in Agriculture Budget, Announces PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana

Bhagalpur/Jammu: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded the tremendous growth in India’s agriculture sector, highlighting that the Union agriculture budget has increased sixfold—from ₹21,933.50 crore in 2013-14 to ₹1,27,290 crore in 2025-26.

Speaking at an event in Bhagalpur, Bihar, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi disbursed the 19th installment of PM-KISAN, Dr. Singh virtually joined the meeting from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jammu, underscoring the government’s unwavering commitment to farmers’ welfare.

As part of this installment, the government transferred ₹22,000 crore to 9.8 crore farmers, bringing the total disbursement under PM-KISAN to ₹3.46 lakh crore across 18 previous installments. Notably, the scheme has expanded to include 30 lakh additional farmers, ensuring broader financial support to rural agricultural communities.

New Initiatives to Strengthen Agriculture

Dr. Singh also announced the launch of the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana, which will focus on 100 districts across India to boost agricultural productivity. This targeted approach aims to provide advanced farming technologies, modern irrigation techniques, and better market access to farmers in these selected regions.

Additionally, he highlighted the increase in the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) limit from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh, which will enhance financial inclusion and provide farmers with better access to credit, allowing them to invest in improved agricultural techniques and mechanization.

Transforming India’s Agricultural Landscape

Calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi the “Champion of Farmers’ Welfare”, Dr. Singh emphasized the far-reaching reforms and technological advancements in agriculture over the past decade. He credited initiatives such as:

  • Soil Health Cards, which help optimize fertilizer use
  • Kisan Credit Cards, ensuring financial security
  • Drone Technology, used for precision farming and spraying fertilizers
  • Micro-Irrigation in High-Altitude Areas, improving efficiency
  • Expansion of Irrigation Facilities, ensuring water security for farmlands

These measures, he said, have not only strengthened India’s agriculture sector but also contributed significantly to the country’s economic growth.

Strengthening Agricultural Infrastructure & Research

Dr. Singh also underscored key government projects aimed at enhancing crop yields and promoting sustainable farming, including:

  • The six-year National Mission on Millets, promoting nutritional security
  • The National Mission on High-Yielding Seeds, improving crop productivity
  • The establishment of a Makhana Board in Bihar, boosting local economies
  • The commissioning of a new urea plant in Assam with a capacity of 12.7 lakh tonnes, ensuring fertilizer self-sufficiency

Farmers at the Core of ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’

Dr. Jitendra Singh concluded by reiterating the government’s vision of making farmers central to India’s growth story, aligning with the goal of Viksit Bharat @2047. He reaffirmed that the continued focus on financial empowerment, technological innovation, and sustainable farming practices would ensure long-term agricultural prosperity, making India a global leader in food production.
