Jay Shah Unanimously Re-elected as President of Asian Cricket Council
Bali: In a unanimous decision at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bali on Wednesday, Jay Shah is set to continue his role as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). As reported by Cricbuzz, the extension for another year was proposed by Shammi Silva, the president of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), and unanimously supported by all ACC members.
Jay Shah, also serving as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is currently in the midst of his second two-year term as the ACC Chief. His presidency began in January 2021, succeeding Nazmul Hassan, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, making Shah the youngest administrator to be re-appointed as the ACC president.
The ACC presidency typically rotates among the full ICC members in the continental body, and Jay Shah is the first individual to secure two consecutive terms. Expressing gratitude after his re-election, Shah emphasized the importance of commitment to the all-round development of cricket, particularly in regions where the sport is still in its early stages.
“I am grateful to the ACC Board for their continued trust. We must remain committed to ensuring the all-round development of the sport, with a special focus on regions where it is still in its infancy. The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia,” stated Jay Shah following his unanimous re-election.
