ITE Singapore CEO, Bruce Poh, Explores Skill Transformation in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Bruce Poh, CEO of the Institute of Technical Education Singapore (ITE), along with his delegation, visited the World Skill Center (WSC) in Bhubaneswar. During the visit on Monday, the team, led by Poh, extensively reviewed the progressive transformation in skill education through modern learning strategies and pedagogy at various Government ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) and Polytechnic institutes across Odisha.

Chairperson of the Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA), Alka Misra, welcomed the delegation and emphasized the need to explore new frontiers in transforming Odisha’s skill ecosystem. Mr. Poh expressed his admiration for the presentations made during the session and conveyed his satisfaction with the swift evolution in the state’s government skill ecosystem.

Participating in a special program at WSC, principals, trainers, and senior officials from various Government ITIs and Polytechnic institutes in Odisha presented reports on the advancements in pedagogy and skill education at their respective institutions. These initiatives are part of advanced courses offered in collaboration with the World Skill Center. The CEO of ITE Singapore appreciated the positive changes observed in the skill development landscape.

In 2018, a special training program in Singapore focused on utilizing the latest tools and pedagogy to train youth aspiring to join industrial training and vocational education careers. Principals received leadership training, and trainers from ITIs received pedagogical training, supported by the Temasek Foundation.

The World Skill Center, established under the vision of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s ‘Skilled in Odisha,’ aims to empower the dreams of Odisha’s youth. Offering training in seven advanced disciplines under the School of Engineering and School of Services, this state-of-the-art skill training is facilitated in collaboration with technical partner ITE Education Services (ITEES), Singapore. The visit by ITE Singapore’s CEO underlines the global recognition of Odisha’s efforts in skill development and vocational education.
