Inter-College Women’s Chess Tournament Held in Karanjia

Karanjia: An inter-college women’s chess tournament was hosted at Panchpir Women’s Degree College in Karanjia on October 1, as part of the Inter-Zone (Zone-II) Chess Championship under Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjdeo University (MSCBU), Baripada. Four prominent colleges from Mayurbhanj district participated in the competition.

Panchpir Women’s Degree College emerged victorious, scoring 3.5 points, followed by Karanjia Autonomous College with 2.5 points. Both teams qualified for the next round, which will take place at MSCBU, Baripada, in the near future. The tournament was conducted by arbiters Siddharth Nanda from Baripada, and Debasish Behera and Kabul Chandra Raul from Karanjia.

The valedictory function was presided over by Pranati Barik, Principal of Panchpir Women’s Degree College. Sub-Collector Premanshu Chand, who attended as Chief Guest, presented trophies to the winning teams and other participants. Academic and administrative staff from the participating colleges were also in attendance.
