INS Tushil Strengthens Naval Ties with Senegal During Port Call at Dakar

Dakar: In a significant step towards bolstering maritime cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties, the Indian Navy’s latest stealth frigate, INS Tushil, arrived at the Port of Dakar, Senegal, on January 3, 2025, as part of its operational deployment.

Under the command of Captain Peter Varghese, the state-of-the-art frigate will engage in an array of military and cultural activities during its visit, fostering closer collaboration between the Indian and Senegalese navies.

The deployment underscores India’s commitment to enhancing regional security and maritime cooperation. During its stay, INS Tushil will host interactions with senior Senegalese military and government officials, conduct training sessions, and facilitate knowledge exchange between naval experts.

A key highlight will be the Passage Exercise (PASSEX) and joint patrol operations off the West African coast. These exercises are designed to improve interoperability and cooperation between the two navies while promoting regional security in the strategic waters of West Africa.

INS Tushil, equipped with cutting-edge indigenous weapons, sensors, and systems, will serve as a testament to India’s growing technological prowess in naval warfare. Demonstrations and training sessions onboard will provide insights into the capabilities of the Indian Navy and offer avenues for knowledge sharing with Senegalese counterparts.

In addition to military engagements, the visit will celebrate cultural diplomacy. A yoga session for Senegalese enthusiasts and onboard social interactions will showcase the rich cultural heritage of India, fostering goodwill and mutual respect.

The visit of INS Tushil to Senegal is a reflection of the growing importance India places on its ties with the West African nation. It builds on a shared vision for stronger defence cooperation and friendly relations.

Through this engagement, both nations aim to explore new opportunities for collaboration, enhance mutual understanding, and strengthen the partnership in ensuring maritime security and stability in the region.
