INS Tabar Arrives in Spain to Strengthen Maritime Ties with Spanish Navy

Malaga, Spain: The Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Tabar, commanded by Captain MR Harish, docked at the port of Malaga on August 25, 2024, for a two-day visit aimed at enhancing bilateral maritime cooperation between India and Spain. This visit is a significant step toward deepening the longstanding relations between the two nations, which have been in place since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1956.

India acknowledges Spain’s critical role in maritime security due to its extensive coastline. The visit of INS Tabar underscores India’s commitment to strengthening maritime collaboration with Spain through constructive engagements. The stay of the Indian frigate aims to explore new avenues for cooperation in the maritime domain.

During the two-day port visit, the crew of INS Tabar will participate in professional exchanges with their counterparts in the Spanish Navy. As part of the engagements, INS Tabar will conduct a PASSEX (Passing Exercise) with the Spanish Navy Ship Atalaya after departing Malaga, further enhancing the interoperability between the two navies. These interactions offer both navies the chance to share and learn from each other’s best practices.

INS Tabar, a versatile stealth frigate equipped with advanced weapons and sensors, is part of the Indian Navy’s prestigious Sword Arm Fleet under the Western Naval Command based in Mumbai.
