INS Kiltan Enhances Maritime Cooperation with Vietnam

Cam Ranh Bay: In a significant display of maritime diplomacy, INS Kiltan arrived at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, on May 12, 2024, as part of the Operational Deployment of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet. The ship received a warm welcome from the Vietnam People’s Navy and the Indian Embassy, underscoring the close ties between the two maritime nations.

The visit of INS Kiltan aims to further strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between India and Vietnam, which share a comprehensive strategic partnership. Activities planned during the visit include professional interactions, sporting events, social exchanges, and community outreach programs, reflecting the shared values of both navies.

A key highlight of the visit will be a Maritime Partnership Exercise at sea between the Indian Navy and the Vietnam People’s Navy. This exercise is designed to enhance interoperability and facilitate the exchange of best practices between the two navies, contributing to maritime security and stability in the region.

INS Kiltan, an indigenous Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) corvette, was designed by the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata. It is the third of four P28 ASW corvettes, equipped with advanced capabilities to counter emerging maritime threats.

The visit of INS Kiltan underscores India’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as its deep-rooted maritime cooperation with Vietnam.
