
Bhubaneswar: The four-day international conference INDOCRYPT was inaugurated on Friday at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar, marking the beginning of a significant global dialogue on cryptography and information security research and innovation.
The conference has brought together leading experts, researchers, academicians and industry professionals from across the world to deliberate on emerging trends, recent breakthroughs and critical challenges in the field of cryptography—an area that has gained increasing relevance in the contemporary digital era.
The inaugural session was presided over by the Minister for Law, Works & Excise, Prithviraj Harichandan, who underlined the growing importance of cryptography and information security in strengthening digital governance and legal systems. Emphasising the need for secure digital infrastructure, the Minister noted that platforms like INDOCRYPT play a crucial role in shaping policy, fostering innovation and building a skilled workforce capable of addressing evolving cyber threats.
Highlighting the broader impact of such academic engagements, Harichandan said that robust information security frameworks are essential for ensuring trust in digital services and safeguarding sensitive data in an increasingly connected world. He added that collaboration between academia, industry and policymakers is key to advancing India’s digital ecosystem.
The first day of the conference featured three high-impact technical sessions delivered by eminent scholars, including Prof. Pantelimon Stănică from the Naval Postgraduate School, USA, Prof. Sugata Gangopadhyay of IIT Roorkee, and Dr. Luca De Feo from IBM Research Europe. The sessions offered deep insights into cutting-edge research and recent advancements in cryptographic theory and practice, while also exploring future directions and real-world applications of the technology.
Prof. Ashish Ghosh, Director of IIIT Bhubaneswar, and Dr. Debashis Jena delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the conference. The inaugural programme was attended by distinguished academicians such as Prof. Bimal Roy of ISI Kolkata and Dr. Indivar Gupta, General Chair of INDOCRYPT.
Over the next four days, INDOCRYPT is expected to serve as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration and innovation, contributing to the advancement of secure digital technologies at both national and global levels.
