India’s Organic Export Potential Reaches Rs 20,000 Crore; Launch of 8th NPOP Edition

New Delhi: Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, today announced that India’s total export value of organic farming could reach Rs 20,000 crore within the next three years. The announcement was made during the launch of the 8th edition of the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) at the Bharat Ratna C. Subramaniam Auditorium, NASC Complex, Pusa.

Piyush Goyal, along with Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Jitin Prasada, and Minister of State for Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting organic farming through enhanced digital platforms and innovative initiatives. Also present were Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State for Cooperation; Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation; and senior government officials.

During the event, several new initiatives were launched to facilitate transparency, ease of operations, and visibility for organic stakeholders. These include the unveiling of a dedicated NPOP portal, Organic Promotion Portal, and the upgraded TraceNet 2.0 traceability system. Additionally, the redesigned APEDA and AgriXchange portals were showcased to enhance user experience and streamline agricultural exports.

Goyal emphasized the significance of organic farming, highlighting its potential to combat water scarcity and reduce the overuse of fertilizers and pesticides. He stressed the growing importance of organic farming for enhancing soil quality, boosting crop yields, and generating higher income for farmers.

The Minister noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, organic farming has gained substantial momentum, with India becoming a significant player in the global organic market. The government’s support extends to empowering Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and cooperatives, ensuring better market access and employment generation.

Goyal also distributed the first five registration certificates generated on TraceNet 2.0 to organic operators, underscoring the commitment to transparency and technological integration in organic certification.

The 8th edition of NPOP introduces key amendments, simplifying certification for organic grower groups and reducing the land conversion period for organic farming. These measures aim to further streamline operations and boost confidence among stakeholders.

The event saw widespread participation from government officials, embassy representatives, and industry leaders from countries such as the USA, EU, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, and UAE. Over 1000 farmers from various states like Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Sikkim, and Rajasthan also participated, showcasing the broad reach of India’s organic farming movement.

Renowned companies like Organic India, Nature Bio Foods, and government organizations like NAFED and NCOL contributed to the event, showcasing India’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and organic exports. Through these initiatives, India is poised to strengthen its position as a leading exporter of organic products globally.
