
Bhubaneswar: India’s dream of winning the World Cup trophy has been shattered as the team failed to qualify Quarterfinals of the 2023 Hockey World Cup.
India lost the qualifying match with New Zealand in a penalty shootout by 4-5.
India scored the first goal in 18 minutes of the match and the second in 22 minutes. India was leading till the third quarter with 3-1. However, New Zealand succeeded in equalising the score.
It was the penalty shootout that decided the faith of the two teams. While New Zealand turned the five shootouts into goals, India failed to turn the final shootout into a goal.
The Black Sticks will face Australia in the Quarterfinals.
