
New Delhi: India’s coal production and dispatches for April 2024 showcased a significant growth compared to the corresponding period last year, indicating a positive trend in the country’s coal sector.
According to provisional data released by the Ministry of Coal, India’s coal production for April 2024 stood at 78.69 million tonnes (MT), marking a notable growth rate of 7.41% compared to April of the previous year, which recorded 73.26 MT. During the same period, Coal India Limited (CIL), the state-owned coal mining company, achieved a coal production of 61.78 MT, reflecting a growth of 7.31% from the previous year’s production of 57.57 MT. Additionally, coal production by Captive and other producers reached 11.43 MT in April 2024, indicating a robust growth rate of 12.99% compared to the previous year’s production of 10.12 MT.
Simultaneously, India’s coal dispatches for April 2024 totaled 85.10 MT (Provisional), showing an increase of 6.07% compared to the same period in the previous year when it was recorded at 80.23 MT. Of this, CIL dispatched 64.26 MT (Provisional) of coal, registering a growth rate of 3.18% compared to the corresponding period last year, which recorded dispatches of 62.28 MT. Furthermore, coal dispatches by Captive and other producers in April 2024 reached 15.16 MT (Provisional), indicating a substantial growth of 26.90% from the previous year’s dispatches of 11.95 MT.
