Indian Women’s Hockey Team Nears Paris Olympics Qualification Despite Shootout Loss to Germany

In a nail-biting encounter, the Indian women’s hockey team faced a setback against Germany, succumbing to a 4-3 defeat in a shootout following a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Despite this loss, India remains just one victory away from securing a spot in the Paris Olympics.

India initiated the game with a stellar start, with Deepika successfully converting a penalty corner in the first quarter. However, Germany maintained consistent pressure, showcasing nearly double the number of circle entries compared to India. The intense battle unfolded, resulting in a draw in regular play and progressing to a shootout.

The resilient Indian team, determined to secure their Olympic berth, will now face Japan in the third-place playoff on Friday evening. The upcoming match presents a crucial opportunity for India to clinch the coveted qualification spot for the Paris Olympics.
