Indian Railways Launches National Competition to Design Digital Clock – ₹5 Lakh Grand Prize Up for Grabs

New Delhi: In a unique blend of design, innovation, and civic pride, Indian Railways has launched a nationwide competition inviting citizens to design the next generation of digital clocks that will be installed at railway stations across the country. The competition, titled “Design a Digital Clock for Indian Railways”, is open to three categories: professionals, college/university students, and school students (up to Class 12). The initiative aims to standardize the look and functionality of digital clocks across the vast Indian Railways network, while tapping into the creative potential of the Indian public.

Speaking about the initiative, Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (Information & Publicity), Railway Board, said, “This is a unique opportunity for creative minds to leave their mark on the nation’s largest public transport system. We’re looking for designs that are not just functional, but also reflect the spirit and diversity of India.”

Participants can submit their entries online between May 1 and May 31. Each submission must include:

  • A high-resolution design (without watermark or logo)
  • A certificate of originality
  • A concept note explaining the theme and inspiration behind the design

Multiple entries are allowed per participant. However, all designs must be original and free from any copyright or intellectual property violations.

Eligibility criteria by category:

  • School Students: Up to Class 12; must upload a valid school ID card
  • College/University Students: Must be enrolled in a recognized institution; valid ID required
  • Professionals: Open to all others not in full-time school or college

In addition to the ₹5 lakh first prize for the winning design, each category will have five consolation prizes of ₹50,000 each, making this not only a prestigious opportunity but also a rewarding one.

The Railway Board encourages participants to focus on designs that are clear, durable, user-friendly, and visually represent the cultural and technological aspirations of a modern India.

With thousands of stations and millions of daily passengers, the selected digital clock design will become a part of everyday life for people across the nation—making this competition not just about design, but also about legacy.
