Kiel Canal: In a significant display of international maritime cooperation, the Indian Navy’s frontline frigate, INS Tabar, conducted a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) with the German Navy off Kiel Canal on August 5, 2024. This exercise marks an important milestone in the ongoing maritime relations between India and Germany.
The INS Tabar had earlier visited Hamburg, Germany, from July 17 to 20, 2024, as part of its return leg from St. Petersburg, Russia. These engagements are part of a broader effort to strengthen maritime ties between the two nations.
The MPX featured the Sea Lynx of the 3rd Squadron Naval Air Wing 5 (MFG5) of the German Navy and included a series of advanced maritime operations. These operations comprised Ship Controlled Approaches, Winching exercises, and Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP) serials, showcasing high levels of professionalism and commitment from both navies.
“This exercise signifies the Indian Navy’s outreach and sustained efforts to enhance collaborative maritime efforts with global partners,” stated a senior naval official. “Our engagement with the German Navy underscores the shared values, democratic principles, and commitment to global peace and security that both nations uphold.”
India and Germany have a longstanding relationship built on a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation. The recent MPX is a testament to the strong bilateral naval ties and the ability of both navies to work together in ensuring maritime security.
