Indian Navy Prepares for Humanitarian Assistance as Cyclone Dana Approaches Odisha and West Bengal

New Delhi: In anticipation of the severe impact of Cyclone Dana, the Indian Navy has initiated preparations for large-scale Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations along the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal. The Eastern Naval Command, in coordination with Naval Officers-in-Charge (NOIC) in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal, has activated a comprehensive disaster response mechanism to support civil authorities and the affected population.

As part of this coordinated effort, essential HADR pallets containing clothing, drinking water, food, medicines, and emergency relief materials have already been dispatched by road to key locations in areas likely to be affected by the cyclone. The Navy has also mobilized Flood Relief and Diving Teams to assist in rescue and relief operations if required.

Key units such as the Base Victualling Yard (BVY), Material Organisation, and the naval hospital INHS Kalyani are working in close collaboration to provide essential supplies and medical support. The Navy is prepared to respond swiftly if assistance is requested by state administrations.

In addition to ground preparations, two ships from the Eastern Fleet are on standby with additional supplies, rescue teams, and diving units, ready to support relief efforts from the sea.

The Indian Navy continues to monitor the evolving situation closely and remains on high alert, prepared to extend its full support to the civil authorities and aid the people in Odisha and West Bengal as Cyclone Dana approaches.
