Indian Navy Leads Rescue Operation for Trapped Miners in Assam

Umrangso, Assam: Responding to an urgent call for assistance, the Indian Navy has deployed a specialized team to rescue miners trapped in a remote mining site in Umrangso, located in the Dima Hasao district of Assam. The mission involves one officer and eleven sailors, including expert Clearance Divers renowned for their skills in deep-depth diving and recovery operations.

The team arrived at the site on the evening of January 7, transported by a swift and well-coordinated Indian Air Force airlift from Visakhapatnam. Equipped with advanced tools such as underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and specialized deep-diving gear, the team has commenced its critical rescue operations.

The operation is a joint effort involving the Indian Navy, the Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the local civil administration. All agencies are working in close coordination to ensure a swift and effective response to this emergency. Regular updates and seamless communication among the teams have been pivotal in advancing the rescue mission.

The challenging terrain and underwater conditions of the site necessitated the deployment of the Navy’s specialized divers and equipment. The Clearance Divers, known for their expertise in high-stakes recovery missions, are leading the underwater search operations to locate and extract the trapped miners.

The Indian Navy emphasized its commitment to the mission, stating, “We remain steadfast in our resolve to safeguard lives and provide prompt assistance in emergencies, reaffirming our dedication to serving the nation during crises.”
