Indian Naval Ships Visit Manila, Strengthening Ties with the Philippines

Manila: Indian Naval Ships Delhi, Shakti, and Kiltan made a significant port call to Manila, Philippines, as part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet operational deployment to the South China Sea. This visit underscores the robust bilateral ties between India and the Philippines and highlights India’s commitment to deepening this partnership.

During the visit, the Indian Navy engaged in a series of activities with the Philippine Navy aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation. These activities included Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE) sessions, sports fixtures, cross-deck visits, cultural exchanges, and collaborative community outreach programs.

Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, along with the Commanding Officers of the visiting ships, engaged in productive interactions with Rear Admiral Renato David, Commander Philippine Fleet, and Vice Admiral Rolando Lizor Punzalan Jr., Deputy Commandant for Operations, Philippine Coast Guard. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including avenues for collaboration, issues of mutual interest, and the current security situation in the region and beyond.

Additionally, Rear Admiral Dhankhar held extensive discussions with Vice Admiral Toribio Dulinayan Adaci Jr., Flag Officer in Command (FOIC), on enhancing naval cooperation and interoperability between the Indian and Philippine navies. These conversations provided an opportunity to explore ways to strengthen naval cooperation and address common maritime challenges.

The port call by the Indian naval ships is a testament to the strong diplomatic and defense ties between India and the Philippines. It reflects India’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region in line with its ‘Act East’ and Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) policies.
