Indian Naval Ships Conclude Successful Visit to Oman, Strengthening Maritime Bonds

Muscat, Oman: Indian Naval Ships Tir and Shardul, along with Indian Coast Guard Ship Veera from the First Training Squadron (1TS), concluded their four-day visit to Muscat, Oman on October 9, 2024, marking a significant step towards strengthening the maritime ties between India and Oman. The visit saw extensive engagements between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO), aimed at deepening cooperation and fostering long-standing bonds of friendship.

Vice Admiral V. Srinivas, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command (FOCINC South), along with the Commanding Officers of the visiting ships, held key discussions with Vice Admiral Abdullah Bin Khamis Bin Abdullah Al Raisi, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (COSSAF), and Rear Admiral Saif bin Nasser bin Mohsen Al-Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (CRNO). Their talks focused on enhancing defence cooperation, exploring avenues for training exchanges, shared knowledge, and joint exercises, furthering strategic ties between the two nations.

The Indian naval delegation also visited the Said Bin Sultan Naval Base, where they were given a tour of RNO ships, maintenance units, and medical facilities. Sea trainees from 1TS had the opportunity to visit Sultan Qaboos Naval Academy, where they toured the Fleet Maintenance Unit and troop carrier ship Al Naasir. Cross-deck visits were also conducted, with personnel from the Royal Navy of Oman boarding Indian ships for an exchange of best practices and ideas, reinforcing camaraderie between the two forces.

Highlighting the strong outreach component of the visit, the First Training Squadron held a school outreach event, giving students a glimpse into the role and capabilities of the Indian Navy. The Indian Naval Symphonic Band further showcased the Navy’s cultural reach with a captivating performance at Oman Avenues Mall, offering a vibrant display of music that transcended language and cultural boundaries.

Vijaya Srinivas, President of the Navy Welfare and Wellness Association (Southern Region), visited the Early Intervention Centre, A.B.L.E, at Indian School Wadi Kabir. She interacted with faculty and differently-abled children, commending the school’s initiatives and support for inclusive education.

A formal reception was hosted onboard the ships by Vice Admiral V. Srinivas, attended by dignitaries including Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, and Commodore Ali Al Balushi, Assistant Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (Admin and Logistics). The event also drew diplomats, Omani officials, and other esteemed guests, further strengthening diplomatic and military ties.
