Indian Men’s Hockey Team Faces Defeat Against Belgium in FIH Pro League Match

Antwerp: In their second match of the European leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2023/24, the Indian Men’s Hockey Team suffered a 1-4 defeat against Belgium. Despite a spirited effort, India couldn’t match Belgium’s attacking prowess, with Abhishek (55’) scoring the lone goal for the visitors, while Felix Denayer (22’), Alexander Hendrickx (34’, 60’), and Cedric Charlier (49’) found the net for Belgium.

The early exchanges saw Belgium dominating proceedings, but India’s resolute defense thwarted their advances. As the first quarter progressed, India gained momentum, pushing Belgium onto the back foot. However, neither team could break the deadlock, and the quarter ended goalless.

In the second quarter, Belgium seized the initiative, taking the lead through Felix Denayer (22’) after finding space inside the area. Despite India’s attempts to equalize, they entered halftime trailing 0-1.

After halftime, India came out aggressively, but Belgium’s defense held firm. The third quarter saw Belgium doubling their lead through Alexander Hendrickx (34’) from a penalty corner, further extending their advantage in the match.

In the final quarter, India pressed forward in search of goals, but Belgium’s defense remained resolute. Cedric Charlier (49’) added another goal for Belgium before Abhishek (55’) pulled one back for India. However, a penalty stroke converted by Alexander Hendrickx (60’) sealed the win for Belgium, with the match concluding 4-1 in their favor.

Jarmanpreet Singh also marked a significant milestone, completing 100 international caps during the match against Belgium.
