Indian Coast Guard Rescues Fishing Boat Rosary Amidst Engine Failure

Karwar: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Rosary, which had encountered engine failure approximately 215 nautical miles from Karwar, Karnataka. The timely intervention by the ICG averted a potential maritime disaster and ensured the safety of the distressed fishing vessel and its crew.

The IFB Rosary had issued a distress call on April 13, 2024, seeking assistance after its engine malfunctioned amidst adverse sea conditions. Responding promptly to the distress call, the ICG Ship Savitribai Phule reached the location of the fishing boat and established communication despite the challenging circumstances.

Upon arrival, the boarding team from the ICG ship immediately assessed the situation and attempted to rectify the issue with the seized engine. However, despite their efforts, the engine could not be restarted, leaving the fishing boat stranded at sea. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the ICG swiftly devised a plan to tow the IFB Rosary to safety.

With coordination between the ICG Ship Savitribai Phule and the Coast Guard District Headquarters in Karnataka, along with assistance from the Fisheries department, the disabled fishing boat was secured and towed towards the Karwar port. The seamless collaboration and quick response by the Coast Guard personnel ensured the safe passage of the IFB Rosary despite the challenging sea conditions.

The IFB Rosary was handed over to another fishing vessel, IFB Shree Laxmi Narayan, which escorted it to the Karwar port, where further arrangements were made for repairs and maintenance.
