Kakinada: In a remarkable display of maritime rescue, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued a 21-year-old Indian fisherman suffering from second-degree burns on the left side of his body. The incident occurred onboard the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Sengalamman, approximately 183 km off the Kakinada Coast in Andhra Pradesh.
The distress call was received by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chennai from the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Chennai, on August 6, 2024. Acting promptly, MRCC Chennai diverted the ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar to the location to provide timely assistance. Concurrently, ICG Station Kakinada was alerted to arrange for necessary medical aid upon the patient’s arrival.
The rescue operation commenced with the evacuation of the injured fisherman from the fishing boat. The medical officer onboard the ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar administered initial treatment to stabilize the patient. Following this, the fisherman was transferred to the ICG Ship C-430 for the onward journey to Kakinada.
Upon reaching the coast, the patient was transported to the Government Hospital Kakinada for further medical care.
