India-Zimbabwe Joint Trade Committee Holds Productive Third Session

New Delhi: The Third Session of the India-Zimbabwe Joint Trade Committee (JTC) took place in New Delhi from May 13th to May 14th, 2024. Under the co-chairpersonship of Priya P. Nair, Economic Adviser at the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and Rudo. M. Faranisi, Chief Director of Economic Cooperation, International Trade, and Diaspora at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe, the session aimed to strengthen bilateral ties and explore avenues for greater economic cooperation.

The Zimbabwean delegation, led by Faranisi and accompanied by over 15 delegates from relevant ministries, engaged in discussions with their Indian counterparts in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. The deliberations were marked by an enthusiastic response towards enhancing cooperation, addressing pending issues, boosting trade and investment, and fostering greater people-to-people contacts.

Both sides acknowledged the vast potential for bilateral trade and agreed to make concerted efforts towards its enhancement. They explored the possibility of signing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for regulatory cooperation in various sectors including digital transformation solutions, tele-medicines, rough diamonds, fast payment systems, and traditional medicine.

Identifying several key areas for bilateral cooperation, both sides emphasized collaboration in pharmaceuticals, the geospatial sector, healthcare, machinery, vehicles, electrical machinery, renewable energy, and the digital economy, among others. Strengthening ties between Investment Promotion Agencies and Chambers of Commerce of both countries was also highlighted as a priority.
