India became the first country in the world to administer DNA vaccine against COVID-19 on Saturday giving a sigh of relief to people who fear needles.
ZyCov D, India’s first needle-free and second indigenous Covid-19 vaccine was launched in Patna.
The world’s first plasmid DNA vaccine, ZyCoV-D is produced by Ahmedabad-based vaccine manufacturer Zydus Cadila. The vaccine uses a genetically engineered, non-replicating version of a type of DNA molecule known as a ‘plasmid.
The Drugs Controller General of India has given its permission for the vaccination to be given to children aged 12 to 17.
Three doses will be given at intervals of 28 days and 56 days from the first dose respectively.
