New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence announced on Friday that it has successfully conducted the launch of the Agni 4, an intermediate-range ballistic missile. The test launch took place at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha, and validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile.
The launch was carried out under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), responsible for managing India’s nuclear arsenal. A senior official from the Ministry confirmed that the missile’s performance met all the expectations set for its capabilities.
This successful launch marks another milestone for India’s strategic defense capabilities. The Agni 4, part of the larger Agni series of ballistic missiles, is known for its long-range, nuclear weapons-capable, surface-to-surface targeting system. The missile is a vital component of India’s nuclear deterrent, ensuring the country’s ability to respond to threats.
In an earlier test on April 4, 2024, India also successfully tested the next-generation Agni-Prime ballistic missile. Like the recent launch, that test was conducted by the SFC in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The Agni series, developed indigenously by India, forms the backbone of the country’s strategic missile forces. Known for their long-range capabilities, the Agni missiles can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads, making them a crucial part of India’s defense and deterrence strategy.
