India-Russia Naval Exercise INDRA 2025 Set to Strengthen Maritime Cooperation

Chennai: The 14th edition of the India-Russia bilateral naval exercise, INDRA 2025, a cornerstone of the enduring maritime partnership between the two nations, is set to take place off the coast of Chennai from March 28 to April 2, 2025. Since its inception in 2003, Exercise INDRA has epitomized the long-term strategic relationship between the Indian Navy and the Russian Navy.

The exercise has evolved into a key platform for maritime cooperation, demonstrating the commitment of both navies to enhancing naval interoperability and operational synergy. It will be conducted in two phases—the Harbour Phase from March 28 to 30 at Chennai, followed by the Sea Phase from March 31 to April 2 in the Bay of Bengal.

The participating naval assets include Russian Federation Naval Ships Pechanga, Rezkiy, and Aldar Tsydenzhapov, alongside Indian Naval Ships Rana and Kuthar, as well as Maritime Patrol Aircraft P-8I. The Harbour Phase will feature an opening ceremony, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs), reciprocal visits, sports fixtures, and pre-sail briefings, fostering deeper collaboration between naval personnel. The Sea Phase will witness advanced naval drills, including tactical maneuvers, live weapon firings, anti-air operations, underway replenishment, helicopter cross-deck landings, and exchange of sea-riders.

These exercises aim to enhance maritime cooperation, strengthen diplomatic ties, and facilitate the exchange of best operational practices. By fostering greater synergy between the two naval forces, Exercise INDRA 2025 continues to reinforce the robust strategic partnership between India and Russia in the maritime domain.
