India register second win, Pakistan lose again

Indian cricket team registered their second win in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 held in Sydney by convincingly beating The Netherlands.

Pakistan, on the other hand, met with a shock defeat against Zimbabwe making it two consecutive last ball losses in the tournament.
In another match of Super 12 Group-2, South Africa, buoyed by a century from Rilee Rossouw, crushed Bangladesh by 104 runs to gain their first win in the multi-nation event.

Half-centuries from captain Rohit Sharma (53 off 39, 4×4,3×6), Virat Kohli (62 off 44, 3×4,2×6) and Suryakumar Yadav (51 off 25, 7×4,1×6) propelled India to reach 179 for 2 after the first innings. Opener KL Rahul again failed with a score of 9 runs off 12 balls. The Netherlands could make only 123 for 9 by the end of their innings. Axar, Ashwin, Bhubaneswar, and Arshdeep scalped two wickets each to ensure India bagged 2 points and have a steady run rate. None from the Dutch team could stand tall to pose any threat to the disciplined Indian bowling.

In the evening Pakistan couldn’t chase down a paltry target of 131 set by Zimbabwe falling short of 1 run from the African nation’s total of 130/8. With two defeats in two matches, the Pakistan team aims to win all their remaining matches to see any chance of progressing into the semi-finals.

In the morning, South Africa set a target of 206 runs for Bangladesh, who were crushed under the burden of the opposition’s mammoth total. Fueled by a crafty 109 runs of 56 balls (7×6,8×4) from Rossouw’s bat and a composed half-century from De Kock (63 off 38, 7×4,3×6), South Africa posted 205/5 after their innings. Bangladesh though showed some brilliance in the first two overs but faltered after that. They were bundled up for 101 in 16.3 overs. Anrich Nortje took 4 for 10 runs and Shamsi bagged 3 for 20 runs.

Afghanistan meets Ireland tomorrow while England faces off with Australia.
