India Names Squad for Women’s Asia Cup, Salima Tete to Continue as Captain

New Delhi: Hockey India on Thursday announced a 20-member squad for the Women’s Asia Cup, confirming that midfielder Salima Tete will continue to lead the national side in the prestigious tournament scheduled in Hangzhou, China, from September 5 to 14.

The Asia Cup carries added weight this year, with the champions earning a direct entry into the 2026 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup.

Placed in Pool B, India will begin its campaign against Thailand on September 5 before taking on Japan the very next day. The team’s final group match will be against Singapore.

Officials said the squad has been selected keeping in mind both experience and balance, with the players expected to put up a strong challenge against tough Asian rivals.
