India Marks Decade of ‘Make in India’ Initiative, Minister Piyush Goyal Urges Focus on High-Quality Manufacturing

New Delhi: As India celebrates ten years of the transformative “Make in India” initiative, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, today emphasized the need for the Indian industry to prioritize the production of high-quality goods that adhere to sustainable practices. Speaking at an interactive session with over 140 CEOs from companies benefiting from the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, Goyal reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Make in India” with “Zero Effect; Zero Defect.”

During the session, Goyal praised the efforts of PLI beneficiary companies for their role in driving growth across key sectors, creating jobs, and positioning India as a global manufacturing hub. He commended the companies for their significant investments, innovative products, and their contributions to generating employment under the PLI Scheme, which has been instrumental in boosting India’s manufacturing output and competitiveness.

“The success of PLI beneficiary companies has shown the world what India is capable of,” Goyal said. “Their dedication is helping to strengthen Brand India, and with a focus on sustainability and quality, India will continue to rise as a leader in global manufacturing.”

Goyal urged the CEOs to increase domestic value addition in their products to further India’s goal of self-reliance and encouraged the industry to support local manufacturers. He also discussed the need for continued investment in innovation, quality, and sustainable practices to strengthen India’s manufacturing sector.

The three-hour interactive session allowed CEOs to share their experiences with the PLI Scheme, highlighting success stories and offering suggestions for improving its implementation. The dialogue fostered open communication between industry stakeholders and the government, with discussions covering ease of doing business, decriminalization and liberalization of laws, and the need for policy support.

Goyal stressed the importance of continued collaboration between industry leaders, implementing Ministries, and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to ensure the PLI Schemes’ ongoing success. He encouraged companies to work with Invest India, the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency, to facilitate technology transfer and foreign collaborations that can further boost India’s global standing.

“The government remains committed to fast-tracking all necessary approvals for PLI-related industries and providing handholding support for greater market access,” Shri Goyal added, highlighting the government’s role in creating an enabling environment for future growth.

The interaction also focused on the tangible outcomes delivered by the PLI Scheme across 14 sectors, which have led to a surge in manufacturing and enhanced India’s global competitiveness. Senior officials from implementing Ministries and Project Management Agencies (PMAs) were present, further underlining the importance of coordinated efforts between the government and industry.

Goyal concluded by thanking the global champions for their hard work and massive investments, which have not only driven growth but also contributed to India’s journey towards self-reliance and economic prosperity.
