India Imposes Import Ban on All Goods from Pakistan: DGFT Notification

New Delhi: The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a notification prohibiting the import of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan to India. The new directive, effective immediately, halts imports from Pakistan directly or through any other trade route.

The prohibition was announced via Notification No. 06/2025-26, issued on May 2, 2025, and is enforceable under the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023. A new provision, Para 2.20A, has been inserted into the policy, stating:

“Direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further orders. This restriction is imposed in the interest of national security and public policy.”

The import ban reflects a shift in India’s approach to its trade relations with Pakistan, signaling heightened concerns over national security and public policy. The move is expected to impact various sectors that rely on cross-border trade between the two nations.

This decision comes as part of India’s ongoing efforts to secure its trade routes and protect the interests of its domestic industries. While the restriction is in place “until further orders,” the announcement has already generated widespread attention, particularly from industries previously engaged in trade with Pakistan.
