India Hammer Indonesia 17-1, Stay Top of Asian Games Pool B

Kakamigahara, Japan: India continued their dominant run at the Asian Games 2026, crushing Indonesia 17-1 in their second Pool B match on Monday to register back-to-back wins and strengthen their position at the top of the group.

The victory came two days after India’s 19-0 demolition of Uzbekistan, taking their goal tally to 36 in two matches while conceding just once. India now have a goal difference of +35 and will have a rest day on Tuesday before facing Thailand on Wednesday.

India’s attacking strength was once again on full display, with seven goals coming from penalty corners and 10 from field play. Deepika continued her outstanding tournament, scoring a hat-trick to take her tally to 11 goals in two matches.

Navneet Kaur and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal also completed hat-tricks, while Lalremsiami, Sunelita Toppo and Sakshi Rana scored twice each. Captain Salima Tete and Ishika added a goal apiece.

India took some time to settle into the match, but once they found their rhythm, their pace and movement began to stretch the Indonesian defence. Deepika opened the scoring from a penalty corner in the eighth minute before Sunelita doubled the lead three minutes later.

Lalremsiami added another in the 12th minute and Rutuja scored shortly afterwards as India ended the first quarter 4-0 ahead.

The pressure continued in the second quarter. Lalremsiami completed her brace within a minute of the restart, while Rutuja added her second in the 20th minute. Sakshi then scored from field play before Deepika and Sunelita converted penalty corners to give India a 9-0 lead at half-time.

Indonesia briefly found a breakthrough early in the third quarter when Innes Aditya scored against the run of play. India responded with five goals in six minutes, as Salima, Navneet, Ishika, Rutuja and Deepika all found the net to take the score to 14-1.

Indonesia managed to contain India for much of the final quarter, but the Indian side finished strongly. Navneet scored twice in the 56th and 57th minutes to complete her hat-trick, with Sakshi scoring between the two goals to seal the 17-1 victory.

The match also marked a major individual milestone for goalkeeper Savita, who made her 321st senior international appearance and became the most-capped Indian woman hockey player, surpassing former India striker Vandana Katariya’s previous record of 320 caps.

With two emphatic victories from two matches, India now lead Pool B and have established a sizeable goal advantage. The team will return to action against Thailand on Wednesday after Tuesday’s break.
