India Extends Emergency Relief Assistance to Papua New Guinea

Port Moresby: In a demonstration of solidarity and friendship, India has responded promptly to the urgent needs of Papua New Guinea (PNG) by providing emergency relief assistance worth US$ 1 million. The aid, airlifted to Kimbe from Port Moresby by the Royal Australian Air Force, was facilitated by John Feakes, the Australian High Commissioner in Papua New Guinea. This relief assistance is intended for distribution within the West New Britain province.

A statement from the Indian High Commission in Papua New Guinea highlighted the strong bonds of friendship between the two nations, emphasizing the proverb, “A friend in need is a friend indeed.”

High Commissioner Inbasekar S, along with FS(Pol) Sh. R Nath, took part in the distribution of food to the children of Koki Primary School and St. Therese Primary School. This initiative, coinciding with the celebration of India’s 75th Republic Day, aimed to contribute to the well-being of the local community. The distribution event also featured prayers led by the DMI Sisters from India, invoking blessings for both India and Papua New Guinea.

The phrase “Anna daanam param daanam!” (The gift of food is the greatest gift) encapsulates the spirit of this humanitarian effort, reflecting India’s commitment to providing support during times of need and fostering enduring friendships.
