
New Delhi: Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan presided over the signing of a significant ‘Letter of Intent’ today between the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a United Nations agency dedicated to supporting the world’s innovators and creators.
The event, held in New Delhi, was attended by a distinguished group of officials, including Sherif Sadallah, Executive Director of WIPO Academy; Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog; Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Member of Science & Technology at NITI Aayog; Altaye Tedla, Head of WIPO Academy; and Dr. Chintan Vaishnav, Mission Director of AIM.
Speaking at the event, Pradhan emphasized that an innovation-based knowledge economy is crucial for India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He highlighted that the new partnership aims to drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property (IP) programs to benefit all, particularly nations in the Global South. Pradhan also noted that this collaboration will promote India’s innovation models internationally, enhance IP understanding from a school level, and foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
He noted that India’s progress in the Global Innovation Index is a testament to the country’s commitment to nurturing creativity and entrepreneurship.

The collaborative effort between WIPO and AIM-NITI Aayog will involve structuring programs to export India’s successful innovation models to other countries. Both organizations will work together on designing and implementing various IP training and capacity-building programs, taking into account the specific needs of the target ecosystems and conducting preliminary needs assessments.
