India and US Strengthen Trade Ties at 6th Commercial Dialogue

Washington DC: The 6th consecutive India-US Commercial Dialogue was held today, jointly chaired by India’s Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington D.C. This high-level meeting aimed to further enhance the business and investment climate between the two countries, with a special focus on emerging technologies and strengthening economic ties.

The Commercial Dialogue addressed key priority areas including Supply Chain Resilience, Climate and Clean Technology Cooperation, Inclusive Digital Growth, and Standards and Conformance Cooperation.

One of the major highlights was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to Expand and Diversify Critical Mineral Supply Chains. The agreement aims to leverage the complementary strengths of both nations to foster the exploration, extraction, processing, and recycling of critical minerals, promoting resilient and sustainable supply chains for both India and the U.S.

During the Dialogue, Minister Piyush Goyal also held a bilateral meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai. They discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation under the India-U.S. Trade Policy Forum and explored ways to increase two-way trade between the two nations. This follows the ongoing efforts to boost economic collaboration and trade relations.

In addition to these talks, Minister Goyal had one-on-one meetings with prominent U.S. business leaders, including William E. Conway Jr., Chairman of the Carlyle Group, and Julian Nebreda, CEO of Fluence Energy, a Siemens and AES company. These discussions focused on expanding investment and trade opportunities between the two nations.

Later in the day, Minister Goyal delivered a keynote address hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), where he spoke on “India’s Evolving Manufacturing Landscape.” He outlined India’s renewed focus on becoming a global manufacturing hub, emphasizing the country’s commitment to integrating into global supply chains and promoting investment in its growing manufacturing sector.
