India and Malaysia Enhance Cooperation in Agriculture and Oil Palm Sectors

New Delhi: India and Malaysia have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of oil palm and other agricultural sectors, following a high-level meeting between Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and the Minister of Plantations and Commodities of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. The Malaysian Minister is visiting India from July 16-19, 2024, and met Shivraj Singh Chouhan today at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi.

During their discussions, both sides expressed a strong desire to collaborate on the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm. They also addressed market access issues related to agriculture and allied products, the institutionalization of cooperation in agriculture, and the application of digital technology in the plantation sector.

The meeting highlighted the potential for mutual benefits through increased collaboration. Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized the importance of leveraging Malaysia’s expertise in oil palm cultivation to boost India’s edible oil production. He also noted the opportunities for India to share its advancements in agricultural technology and digital applications with Malaysia.

Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani praised the Indian government’s efforts in promoting sustainable agriculture and expressed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in the agricultural sector. He noted that Malaysia’s experience in plantation management and oil palm production could significantly contribute to India’s National Mission on Edible Oil.
