India and Denmark Renew MoU to Strengthen Clean Energy Cooperation

New Delhi: India and Denmark have reaffirmed their shared commitment to accelerating clean energy transitions by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening collaboration in sustainable energy solutions. The MoU was formally signed today by Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, and H.E. Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Ambassador of Denmark to India, in the presence of Manohar Lal, Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs.

The renewed MoU builds on the success of the original agreement signed on June 5, 2020, which was scheduled to expire in June 2025. By renewing the MoU ahead of schedule, both nations have ensured the continuity and expansion of their energy cooperation.

Speaking at the occasion, Minister Manohar Lal highlighted the strategic significance of the partnership. “This renewed energy cooperation expresses the mutual commitment of India and Denmark to foster sustainable development and achieve long-term climate goals,” he said.

The agreement aligns with India’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, joint research, and technological collaboration between the two countries. It will specifically focus on advanced areas of cooperation such as:

  • Power system modeling and optimization
  • Integration of variable renewable energy sources
  • Cross-border electricity trading frameworks
  • Development of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure

The MoU also places emphasis on capacity-building initiatives through expert interactions, joint training programs, and study tours, thereby enabling shared learning and innovation.

Denmark has been a longstanding partner in India’s energy transition journey, particularly in the areas of wind energy, grid integration, and green technology. The renewed MoU is expected to enhance both countries’ efforts in developing resilient, secure, and decarbonized energy systems.
