IMD Issues Heatwave Warnings and Yellow Alert for Odisha Amidst Rain Forecast

Bhubaneswar: The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued heatwave warnings alongside a yellow alert for rain and thundershowers across several districts of Odisha for the upcoming week. While light to moderate rain and thundershowers are anticipated in parts of South Odisha, dry weather is expected to prevail in other regions.

Weather Forecast and Warnings for Odisha (Next Seven Days)

Day 1 (Valid until 0830 hrs IST of 18.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at one or two places in South Odisha, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh. Dry weather is expected in the remaining districts.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 18.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 19.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at one or two places in South Odisha.
Dry weather is expected in the rest of the districts.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Hot and humid weather conditions are expected in Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 19.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 20.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati. Dry weather is expected in the rest of the districts.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Hot and humid weather conditions are likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 20.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 21.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. Dry weather is expected in the rest of the districts.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Heatwave conditions are likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Kandhamal.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 21.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 22.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at one or two places in Coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur.
Dry weather is expected in the rest of the districts.

Yellow Warning (Be Updated): Heatwave conditions are likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Angul, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Dhenkanal.

Thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, and Bhadrak.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower is likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Dry weather is expected in the rest of the districts.

Day 7 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 23.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 24.05.2024)

Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely at a few places in South Odisha, and at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Jharsuguda.
Dry weather is expected in the rest of the districts.
