Illegal LPG Trade Suspected as 62 Cylinders Seized at Sampur Eviction Site

Bhubaneswar: The Civil Supplies Enforcement Squad on Thursday seized a large number of LPG cylinders from an eviction site at Sampur under Bharatpur Police Station, raising suspicion of illegal gas trade.

Acting on inputs, officials conducted a verification drive at Ward No. 23, where they found 51 LPG cylinders of 14.2 kg capacity, along with six 2 kg cylinders and five 5 kg cylinders. No claimant was present at the site during the inspection, and all the cylinders were found empty.

Authorities said the circumstances indicate that the cylinders were likely being used for unauthorised LPG business in violation of government norms.

The seizure was carried out in the presence of personnel from the Commissionerate Police and officials of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), which had earlier conducted an eviction drive in the area.

Officials confirmed that necessary legal action has been initiated, and further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the suspected illegal activity.
